History always has a tale to tell to inspire a whole generation to take up a sport and have the self-belief that miracles do happen if the mindset is strong. This translates to the fact that no team is invincible and can be defeated even in adverse situations. Hence, this movie explores the real question which remained at that point, who would be the leader of the pack and how would he make the team believe to do the unthinkable?

Back in March 1983, an Indian team was chosen to represent the nation in the third edition of the ODI World Cup in England. A new captain in the making in the form of Kapil Dev took the mantle from another legend Sunil Gavaskar which made many Indian cricket officials uncomfortable. Moreover, every team including its own cricket board game this young spirited team any chance whatsoever to stay alive in the global event and trouble even the minnows. However, the new skipper played by actor Ranveer Singh had an unwavering self-belief which he successfully inflicted on the whole team and changed the way Indian players approached the game initially.

Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev led from the front and played a historic knock against Zimbabwe when the team was already staring down the barrel with the score reading 17/5 on the board. But one of the greatest knocks of all time created a belief that Team India can survive against strong teams and topple them on their day. Consequently, in what was initially revealed by some players during an interview on the launch of this incredible movie that most players were merely there with the mindset of being tourists and probably winning a few games being the underdogs.

However, things took a wild turn and suddenly found themselves at the 'Mecca of Cricket' aka Lord's to compete against the two-time world champions, West Indies. The rekindled spirit of performing in adverse conditions led this Indian team to script history by winning the World Cup thereby defining Indian cricket for the rest of the generations which happened because of skipper, Kapil Dev.
