A young MS Dhoni was asked to lead India in the 2007 T20 World Cup with veterans like Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid opting out of the tournament. In fact, the entire Indian squad comprised inexperienced players, and hence, many didn’t see India going far in the competition.

However, the Men in Blue defied the odds and won the title. While the likes of Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh were India’s star performers, Dhoni was the unsung hero. He played some crucial cameos, and his wicket-keeping was précised.

On top of that, the Ranchi-born cricketer made some shocking but brilliant on-field decisions to take India to glory. Dhoni led India in the subsequent five editions of the T20 World Cup and guided the side to numerous wins. However, the talismanic wicketkeeper, who retired from international cricket last year, will not feature in this year’s tournament.
