1. Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad
It is the largest cricket stadium in the world and can house up to 1,32,000 spectators. The old stadium was closed and demolished in 2015 and was completely renovated to bring it to its current form. Earlier the pitch here used to be slow and low, thus favoring bowlers. The stadium, after complete reconstruction, is ready to host its first-ever international match between India and England on 24th February 2021.
The redesigned stadium spans over 63 acres, with LED lights on the roof replacing the usual floodlights. It has got over 75 corporate boxes, 3 practice stadiums, 55 rooms, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. There are no pillars in the stadium, thus giving the spectator a pellucid view of the events in the match.
It hosted the quarter-final match between India and Australia in the 2011 ICC World cup, in which Sachin Tendulkar crossed 18000 runs in One day cricket and remains the only player in history to do so.
