Ranveer Singh might not receive his pending fees as '83 underperforms at the box office

Despite facing a delay for over a year and a half, the much-awaited movie 83 finally hit theaters during this Christmas weekend. While the director of the movie is Kabir Khan, it features the Bollywood Superstar Ranveer Singh playing the role of the former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev. The film revolves around the story behind India’s inspirational World Cup-winning campaign in 1983.

It shows the journey of the Indian team from underdogs to world champions. Although the movie received positive reviews upon its release, its performance at the box office hasn’t been great, to say the least. According to several trade analysts, the movie underperformed in its opening weekend. The well-reputed trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to speak about the disappointing box office numbers of the film.

“#83TheFilm disappoints. Biz witnessed slight growth *outside metros* on Day 3, but not enough to cover lost ground. The jump on Day 2 [#Christmas] and Day 3 [Sun] had to be massive since #Christmas is one of the best periods, but it was missing,” read his Tweet.

Plus, the extensive screen count [3741 screens; all versions], so it had to deliver. Fri 12.64 cr, Sat 16.95 cr, Sun 17.41 cr. Total: ₹ 47 cr. #India biz,” read his follow-up Tweet. However, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that much of the blame has to go to the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

As this variant has resulted in the shutting of several theatres across various cities, the business this film is doing isn’t as good as what was expected. Thus, the film seems all set to become one of the biggest disasters of all time. Moreover, according to a report by MensXP, the lead actor of the movie might not get his pending fee.

Due to the poor box office numbers of the movie, a large amount of fee for the Bajirao Mastani-star may not even be paid. This might be to counter some of the losses the movie is facing. It is to be noted that as this is a cricket-based movie, it was expected to do wonders.
