Ranveer Singh will meet the 1983 World Cup winning Indian team

From former Indian skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni‘s biopic to the ‘God of cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar’s documentary based on his life, the glamour world of Bollywood is significantly benefiting from cricket stories. Now, another inspirational story from the cricket field will be in theatres near you, where extremely popular Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh will play the World Cup winning Indian skipper, Kapil Dev. The movie will showcase India’s first triumph in the biggest event of cricket, where they defeated the then mighty Windies.

To know more about the struggles of the team which created history, Ranveer will meet the players of the 1983 team on Wednesday. It is understood that Kapil Dev will also be present in the event, whose venue has not been finalised yet. The film, whose scripting is finished already, will be directed by famous director Kabir Khan, who has given us many super hit films like Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Tubelight. Phantom Films, who have produced many successful films in the past like Udta Punjab, Raman Raghav 2.0, Queen and Lootera, will produce the film.

The co-founder of Phantom Films, Madhu Mantena was quoted saying by Business Standard, “It’s a great feeling to start work on this incredible story of the Indian cricket team of 1983. We are feeling very blessed that we are starting this journey along with the heroes of 1983. We are thankful to all the players for taking out time from their schedules and joining us for this event.”

No other cast members have been finalised yet

While Ranveer has already put pen to paper for the role of Kapil Dev, no other cast members have been announced by the production house yet. But the news is already circulating in the media, as the fans can’t wait to see how Kapil’s warriors announced the arrival of India in the world cricket. The film is expected to catch the attention of both cricket enthusiasts and cinephiles alike.
