Rashid Khan loses his top spot in ICC ODI rankings
Virat Kohli continues to be at the top.
The veteran New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor has leapt up into the top 10 batsmen in the latest ICC ODI rankings released on Tuesday. Also the winners of the recently concluded ICC World Cup Qualifiers, Afghanistan players have been benefitted the most. The young leg-spinner Mujeeb Zadran has continued to make giant strides in international cricket at a very young age as he also jumped up to 21st spot in the bowlers’ rankings in ODIs. However, Rashid Khan has lost his top spot following a poor show in the qualifiers.
Taylor is in the form of his life as he slammed his career-best knock of 181 against England while chasing a mammoth total of over 330 runs during one of the ODIs of the five-match series. He has been batting impeccably well in the recent times and it is no surprise that the cricketer has jumped to number 7 in ODI rankings. It was back in 2015 when Taylor was amongst the top 10 batsmen in the format.
Mujeeb shines
Mujeeb Zadran was the highest wicket-taker in ICC World Cup Qualifiers and he has climbed a whopping 42 spots and is currently ranked 21st in the bowlers’ list. He scalped as many as 16 wickets in the tournament at an average shade under 16. Tim Murtagh, Ireland fast bowler, picked 10 wickets while featuring in the same tournament is just place one spot above the 16-year-old.
As far as the top rankings are concerned, India continues to rule with their skipper Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah taking the honours in both the departments. Rashid Khan‘s poor show in the qualifiers has made him lose his top spot in the bowlers’ rankings and is now 4 points behind Bumrah. The other Indians in the top 10 rankings are Rohit Sharma (6th) and Yuzvendra Chahal (9th). AB de Villiers has grabbed the second spot in the ICC ODI rankings while David Warner is just behind him in the list by a significant margin of 21 points.
