Rashid Khan picks the top four bowlers in the World currently

He is just 20 but at this age, Rashid Khan has bowled over the cricketing world. The leg-break bowler comes from a nation which is yet to emerge as a frontline cricketing power and also has its own internal problems and that perhaps makes his feats even more commendable. Rashid was back to international cricket after a few months and picked 11 wickets in three T20Is that he played for Afghanistan against Ireland.

The final of the three games played in Dehradun saw him picking up a fifer, his second in the format, and that included a hat-trick. The man is just five short of his 200th international wicket now.

Rashid recently appeared for a 25-question interview with ESPNCricinfo where he came up with some interesting answers. Speaking with Jason Dasey, the young cricketer took the name of burly wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad (Rashid called him “Shahzad Mohammadi”) when asked about the “joker of the squad”.

Shahzad was not picked for the T20I series against Ireland played in India even though he is by far the highest scorer for his country in this format with nearly 2,000 runs. Shahzad, a colourful character who is known for his big-hitting skills, though was in the squads for the five ODIs and one-off Test that the two teams play next.

Rashid Khan was then asked about the top three bowlers reigning in world cricket at the moment and he named four of them, including three pacers and one spinner. The pacers are South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar while the spinner is Rashid’s teenage compatriot Mujeeb ur Rahman.

The Afghan off-break bowler played in two of the T20Is against Ireland but was left out of the only Test squad. He played in Afghanistan’s debut Test against India in Bengaluru last year but picked only one wicket.

Another question to Rashid was about the artiste he would like to watch perform live and his pick was Anushka Sharma, a frontline Bollywood actress and the wife of India’s cricket captain Virat Kohli.
