Ravi Ashwin and his wife Prithi Ashwin have finally announced the birth of their second child almost a week after the birth. While one certainly commends the impressive manner in which the family kept all of this a secret, this is certainly the icing on the cake for the 30-year old Ashwin who has been the beneficiary of what has been a terrific year no less.

This is the Ashwin family’s second child after the birth of their first daughter, Akira, last year. The news also broke from Prithi Ashwin’s twitter account as she explained how the birth could not come at a better time given the dying down of the cyclone as well as the State-wide shut down following what was viewed as a shut down at least following the death of the former Chief Minister.

Prithi Ashwin’s tweet read: “I delivered carrom baby #2 on the 21st. She waited out a State-wide shut down thanks to the cyclone AND 5 days of Test cricket at Chepauk.”

The 30-year old’s wife also went on to state that she thought that the baby would have been born in Chepauk as she also revealed the uneasiness she felt during the final day’s play between India and England, a match that was clinched by the Indians with under an hour to play.

The follow-up tweet from Ashwin read: “I thought my water would break when we won that game and I was going to have the baby at Chepauk. Now, THAT would have been some story.”

Prithi Ashwin also went on to state that she did not want to steal Ashwin’s moment in the spotlight wherein he picked up the ICC Test cricketer of the year’s award. Ashwin concluded the year as the highest wicket-taker in the calendar year with 72 wickets to his name in the 17 Test matches played.
