With six wins in eight league matches, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are at the second position in the points table of IPL 2022. The team has produced balanced performances in both departments of the game. On the batting front, the team has found consistent contributions from Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson, while Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna, and Ravi Ashwin have been the pillars of strength in the bowling unit.

The team is currently facing Mumbai Indians (MI) at DY Patil Stadium in their ninth league match of this season. Ahead of this fixture, the former cricketer turned commentator Deep Dasgupta opined on the performance of spin bowling duo, Chahal and Ashwin in the ongoing season.

In total, the duo has scalped 25 wickets in eight appearances at a decent economy. Dasgupta reckoned that Chahal has evolved and has been smart with his approach this season. He thinks the success of Chahal on small grounds in IPL 2022 has been due to his vast experience for RCB in Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“Yuzi obviously has evolved, and you can call it Yuzi 2.0. He is bowling with smartness and has an experience in bowling on small grounds and flat pitches. as he has played enough in Chinnaswamy Stadium,” said Dasgupta on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

Dasgupta termed Ashwin as the mystery bowler of this season, due to his variations like carrom ball and flippers, apart from his traditional offies. He mentioned that Ashwin already had a great economy until the last match against Delhi Capitals (DC), wherein he also picked up two wickets and played a key role in the team’s victory. In the end, Dasgupta added that the combination of both the spinners is terrific and the captain Sanju Samson has his eight overs set.

Ravi Ashwin is using different variations, has been a revelation to a great extent: Dasgupta

“On the other hand, Ashwin has been very good in the sense, that if anyone is a mystery bowler at the moment is him only. Until now, he has not bowled his traditional off-spinners on very less occasions and has instead used a carrom ball and flippers. He is using different variations and has been a revelation to a great extent.

“In this format, it will be unfair for him to call an off-spinner and is a proper mystery bowler. Along with a fine economy, he picked up wickets as well in the last fixture,” Dasgupta added.
