Ravi Shastri join in on the ‘PadMan’ challenge
Shastri also asked three individuals to join the social initiative
Indian coach Ravi Shastri, who is currently busing prepping the Indian team in their ongoing tour of South Africa, on Tuesday took on a different challenge. Shastri who provided non-pareil impetus, albeit from the pavilion to help India bounce back after a 1-2 Test series loss joined the ‘PadMan Challenge’. After two pulsating wins, the Men in Blue take on the Proteas in the third ODI tomorrow at Newlands, Cape Town.
The PadMan challenge that Shastri took challenges one to unapologetically hold a sanitary pad in their hand and post a picture on their social handle. It is an attempt to open up talks on this subject that is basic human hygiene in the country. Thus, taking to his official Twitter account, Shastri posted a picture of him holding the same.
He continued the chain also asked India skipper Virat Kohli and tennis legend Leander Paes to join the social initiative. He wrote, “Yes, it’s a Pad in my hand. Happy to support rockstar @akshaykumar for breaking the taboo and initiating an open conversation. AK, am sure no ball is going to hit PAD (MAN). #PadManChallenge Here I challenge @imVkohli @SinghaniaGautam @Leander”.

A number of Indian stars join in on the challenge
Earlier, India’s star shuttler and Olympic medallist PV Sindhu had also posted a similar caption with a sanitary pad. Joining Sindhu are celebrities Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao among others.
A lot of Bollywood celebrities took up the #PadManChallenge which was a campaign started by entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, on whom the film PadMan is based. Mr Muruganantham had tagged Twinkle Khanna in his tweet. Twinkle led the challenge in Bollywood and nominated Aamir Khan and Shabana Azmi to raise awareness on menstruation and sanitation.
The Akshay Kumar-starred Pad Man, which is slated for release on February 9, attempts to spread awareness on menstruation and is based on the same lines. Akshay plays the protagonist Arunachalam Muruganantham, inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad making machine. He co-stars with Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in the film.
