Sourav Ganguly and Ravi Shastri have had a fallout for the past two to three years and the chemistry didn’t work out between the two. But, now things really seem to take a U-turn after Sourav Ganguly took charge as BCCI President. When it comes to performing national duties, Ganguly and Shastri are working beyond the call of duty to create an instant impact and to take the Indian cricket forward.
Both the stalwarts are sincerely doing their bit to reduce the differences between them. Recently, India chief coach Ravi Shastri went a step ahead in mending the difference between him and Sourav Ganguly, as he showered praise on latter’s valuable contributions as a cricketer while speaking in the latest episode of India Today Inspiration.
I have the utmost respect for Sourav Ganguly: Ravi Shastri
The head coach of the Indian cricket team put an end to all those widespread speculations of his tense relationship with Ganguly by saying that he has the utmost respect for the BCCI President. According to Shastri, Ganguly took over Indian cricket in troubled waters.
“He [Ganguly] took over Indian cricket at the most troubled times. You needed the faith of the people to come back. What he has done as a cricketer… I have the utmost respect. If people think I don’t respect that, to hell with them. As far as the Sourav-Shastri game that goes, that’s brilliant chaat and bhel puri for the media,” Ravi Shastri added in a statement.
For the unversed, the relationship between India’s head coach and BCCI President went from bad to worse after the former was pipped by Anil Kumble for head coach role by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) featuring the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. However, in 2017, after Kumble stepped down as head coach, Shastri was recently re-appointed for the role.
Earlier, Sourav Ganguly ended the silence over the relationship with Shastri, brushing aside the speculations over his relationship with the India head coach. “That’s why it is speculation. I don’t have an answer to it [speculations]. It’s pretty simple. It’s about performance. You perform, you continue or else somebody else would take over. It’s a simple formula,” Ganguly added.
Sourav Ganguly made waves as BCCI President as he brought significant changes in Indian cricket. He was the one who helped the nation host its historic day-night Test at the home of cricket, Eden Gardens against Bangladesh, in what turned out to be a massive success.
On the contrary, Ravi Shastri is pulling off his tricks and techniques to help Team India win matches at home. Ever since India’s exit from ICC World Cup 2019, the Indian team has been on a sensational match-winning spree.
