Ravichandran Ashwin happy to be picked by Kings XI Punjab
Ashwin shifts bases from Chennai to Punjab.
Ravichandran Ashwin has been a significant performer for the Chennai Super Kings. He was MS Dhoni’s go-to man when he was in the yellow jersey. He played a crucial part in many of their triumphs. Earlier, MS Dhoni and CSK management said that they would go all out at Ashwin and get him at all costs.
However, the story in the 2018 IPL auctions was different. Chennai bid for him till the 4 crore point. Once he crossed the 4 crore mark, CSK was least interested in him. After some intense bidding war, Ashwin was sold to the Kings XI Punjab at 7.6 crores. The Kings XI Punjab were very happy on getting Ash.
Ashwin is now a Punjabi lad
The Chennai Super Kings expected to get Ashwin at a cheap price. However, that wasn’t the case at the auction table. Although CSK started off early bidding for Ashwin, it seemed that he didn’t fit in their budget plans.
The Kings XI Punjab went aggressively at Ashwin and were looking to get him at all cost. Ashwin has been in some significant form in the longest format of the game. He played some crucial role in India’s triumphs in the home season. However, he was dropped from the national team once Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav had come in. He has been out of the limited format for quite a while now.
But, Sehwag has always had a special liking for Ashwin and it looked obvious that KXIP will go for him in the auction. The Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, replaced Ash with the veteran off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh. This ends the eight-year association between CSK and Ashwin.
He took it to Twitter to express his happiness. He said that the auction is always like a house of casino. Ashwin was also happy to accept that fact that Punjab will be his new home. Further, Ashwin thanked his previous franchise Chennai Super Kings for all the great memories.
