The 2018 FIFA World Cup is currently into its quarter-final rounds and the hype surrounding the event is already on an escalation. With a tad over a week is left before the grand finale on Sunday, July 15 and only six teams are in contention at the moment. France came into the tournament as the world number seven team. They started their tourney with a couple of thumping victories versus Peru and Australia.
That helped the European team finish atop the points table. Yesterday, in the first quarter-final, they brushed aside Uruguay by 2-0 and qualified for the semi-final. Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann scored in the 40th and 61st minute respectively to win the match for their team. In the other match played last night, Belgium beat Brazil by 2-1 to make their entry into the top four teams.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian cricketer, reckons that France are the firm favourites to lift the championship. He was awestruck by their panache and confidence on the field. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Teams will have to do really well to keep France away from winning this World Cup. #FrancevsUruguay #FIFAWC2018”
Here is Ashwin’s post

Ashwin is currently on a break as the Indian cricket team is presently in England, playing the T20I and ODI series. Previously, he lost his place to the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, and he represents the national team only in Test cricket. His next assignment is expected to be India’s upcoming Test series versus England, which starts on August 1.
Last time around, Ashwin played two Tests in England, where he picked up only a couple of wickets. In order to refurbish his skills, he played County Cricket for Worcestershire and didn’t disappoint by any means. The pitches in England won’t assist the spinners much and Ashwin will again have a challenging task ahead of him.
