RCA elections await final results amid a tussle
It was learnt that the DCA secretary is in favour of the Modi group as he is their group’s candidate for the joint secretary post.
The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections have been embroiled in a fight between two factions namely the C P Joshi and Ruchir Modi. The polling process which ended today has seen the two groups’ claiming victory for the six posts as per Lodha Committee. But things took an ugly turn for them when a cross voter the Bharatpur DCA secretary came in the fray.
In case you didn’t know
C P Joshi is a senior Congress leader who is contesting against Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir Modi. The RCA has been in a long tussle with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over Lalit Modi. The board doesn’t want the exiled former IPL president to get his hands on any cricket administrative post due to his controversies in the opening IPL editions. Two members of the Lalit Modi camp Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha Harshvardan Singh and Mehmoodi Abdi have pulled back their applications, which makes it a one-on-one fight between Modi and Joshi.
High Court ruling
The election was going for a tie. But the judiciary rolled out the result when it allowed the Bharatpur DCA secretary to cast its vote. The voter’s list thus swelled to 33 which ensured that a winner could be determined. The last vote was cast under a heavy police protection.
It was learnt that the DCA secretary is in favour of the Modi group as he is their group’s candidate for the joint secretary post. The situation brought a smile on the face of the Modi segment as they were confident of wresting 19 votes. Meanwhile, the Joshi group made an optimistic calculation of getting 18 votes at least and also expected themselves to be in the fray of getting two more.
The Rajasthan High Court had ordered the ballot boxes to be kept in custody of the ombudsman who refused to take it up. It was finally decided to be kept in the government treasury. The contest is turning out to be a nail-biting finish with both the groups in the hunt for the coveted post.
