RCB’s dismal show in IPL 12 won’t affect Virat Kohli in World Cup, feels Brad Hogg
"He is a focused individual."
The disastrous run of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 has left not only the fans of the franchise dejected but also many experts who are apprehensive that it might take a toll on the team’s high-profile captain Virat Kohli, who is also the skipper of India’s national side, during the upcoming World Cup. Former England captain Michael Vaughan even advised India to rest the ace batsman so that he can return afresh during the big event.
However, there are also voices that feel that Kohli is too strong a player to get affected by the IPL results. Former India captain and national selector Dilip Vengsarkar said recently that it would be wrong to judge the India captain by his IPL form. And now former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has said that the RCB’s debacle this IPL season will not affect the India captain’s performance during the WC. The RCB have lost all the six games they have played so far and are lagging at the end of the points table featuring eight teams.
“There is no way that it will affect Virat Kohli in the World Cup. He is a focused individual and he wants to succeed,” a report in Scroll quoted Hogg as saying. “Do not worry about Kohli going in the World Cup.”
RCB over-reliant on players like Kohli, ABD, says Hogg
The 48-year-old former left-arm spinner who played in the IPL in the past and featured in competitive games till last year was though not surprised with the RCB’s dismal show in the ongoing IPL. According to him, the Bangalore side is over-dependent on players like Kohli and AB de Villiers and neither their middle order nor the bowling in the death overs has delivered.
The RCB suffered an incredible loss against Kolkata Knight Riders last week as Andre Russell belted their bowlers at will to take his side home from an improbable situation.
The RCB next play Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Saturday and will be in the hunt for their first point. They will need to win all their remaining games now if they aspire to make the playoffs.
