RCB's over-reliance on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers has to change: Brian Lara
RCB once again couldn't go all the way even in the IPL 2020 season.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are probably regarded as the best batting pair a team can have. Their on-field partnership and off-field friendship show the amount of trust they put in each other. However, it is unlucky on other hand, when RCB is not able to win even one IPL trophy despite having these two stars. Once again in the IPL 2020, they couldn’t go all the way and lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator.
It is often seen that the RCB heavily relies on the Kohli-de Villiers duo to deliver. Apart from the consistent youngster Devdutt Padikkal, no one really stood for the team from their batting set up even in this season. There shouldn’t be much dependence on the superstar duo according to the former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara.
Lara opines that RCB needs to rethink on this factor, and then only they will be able to perform. The bowling unit of RCB performed a bit better this season but still needs to work a lot before showing up for next season.
RCB played a very good cricket but were bit inconsistent says Brian Lara
“They (RCB) played very good cricket, sometimes a little bit inconsistent. They did not finish in the top 2 when they had that opportunity. I think what they have to do is just assess the situation and the over-reliance on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers has to change, moving forward,” Lara told Star Sports.
While playing eliminator against the Hyderabad team, none of the batters could score well for the team, apart from De Villiers. This is the reason that the team was only able to post 131 on the board. De Villiers’ half-century was the only significant thing from their batting unit.
On the other hand, Jason Holder and Kane Williamson were determined enough to take SRH over the line. Even their bowling attack, including the likes of T Natarajan and Holder, did the job perfectly for SRH in the must-win encounter.
