Reports: Deepak Chahar out of action for four months, might miss T20 World Cup 2022
Chahar, who was recovering from a quadriceps tear at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, suffered a fresh back injury while bowling in the nets.
As per the latest developments, Team India and Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar is set to be out of action for at least four months. While he has already been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, dark clouds are even looming over his participation in the T20 World Cup 2022, which is slated to take place in October-November later this year in Australia.
For the unversed, Chahar, who was recovering from a quadriceps tear at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, suffered a fresh back injury while bowling in the nets. This meant CSK won’t be able to avail his services for the rest of the season. This is certainly a major blow for the four-time champions as they secured Chahar’s services for a whopping INR 14 crore at the mega auction.
He was initially set to join the team for the second half of the season. However, as per the Times of India, the latest scans suggest the right-arm pacer won’t take the field for at least four months. This means he could well miss the T20 World Cup 2022 as well.
Deepak Chahar’s absence could hurt CSK
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old emerged as a vital cog of the CSK team. The right-arm pacer isn’t the fastest of bowlers going around but his ability to swing the new ball makes him a potent weapon. To operate in the slog overs, the pacer has a sharp yorker and a well-disguised slower delivery as well.
If that’s not enough, the dasher is also a potent batter lower down the order, who even has two ODI half-centuries under his belt. Owing to all these factors, CSK didn’t mind breaking their bank to reacquire his services. However, it won’t pay them dividends this season as the Ravindra Jadeja-led side will have to operate without him for the entire tournament.
The Indian team, however, would remain hopeful of Chahar’s recovery as the fast-bowling all-rounder would be a great asset on Australian tracks.
