Reports hint towards the IPL franchise Gautam Gambhir may join
According to latest reports, the former KKR skipper is ready to play under the tutelage of MS Dhoni.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were extremely clear on the three players that they would retain at the retention after posting their message on Twitter. As per expectations, they retained the services of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) retained Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. KKR’s retention policy has raised an eyebrow or two as they did not retain their skipper, Gautam Gambhir.
However, according to latest reports, the former KKR skipper is ready to play under the tutelage of MS Dhoni at CSK. CSK are making a grand come-back after two years of missing out at the premier tournament. While there are no official statements from the Southern side, they have been instances when their fans have asked the club passionately to include the left-handed opener in the squad.
CSK reacts to a fan over Gautam Gambhir
Most would’ve not paid any heed to the circulating rumours. But it was a tweet from the CSK Twitter handle that set the tongues wagging. When a passionate CSK fan tweeted to the franchise on the Gambhir issue, they replied with a thinking emoji, fuelling the existing speculations. A Twitter user @Anti_ESTD wrote, “I Hv a strong feeling @GautamGambhir will b picked by @ChennaiIPL in this auction. #IPLRetention.”
CSK’s reply to fan’s tweet with a deep in thoughts emoticon has got Twitter churning, as people on the social media have almost deduced that the franchise is eyeing the left-handed opener. According to reports, KKR’s decision to let go of their 2-time tournament winning skipper was due to age issues. Another reason may be that the Shah Rukh Khan-franchise were saving money through not retaining their skipper, so as to capture him with a Right to Match (RTM) card during the auctions, leading to a probable lower cut in their purse.
Here are the two tweets that have taken the social media by storm:
On their part, KKR spent their 21 crores on the Windies duo, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, who have played their part in KKR’s twin IPL victory in the past. However, it is yet to be seen if there is any truth to the raging speculations and if the franchise from Chennai does choose to make a dash for the left-hander during the auction. The star-studded IPL auction is set to take place later this month.
