Reports: Krunal Pandya recovers from COVID-19, returns home from Sri Lanka
Krunal Pandya had to stay back in Sri Lanka despite his squad returning back to India.
Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya has finally recovered from COVID-19 and has returned home. During India’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, Pandya tested positive for COVID-19. The incident almost jeopardized the tour, but eventually, everything was concluded without any hiccup. Pandya, in fact, didn’t return along with the Indian team back home as he had to isolate, recover and then take a flight back home.
The incident with Pandya happened after the first T20I. India had won the first match of the series and was looking solid enough to outdo the Sri Lankan team. However, that didn’t happen. After Krunal tested positive, there were several other players, especially the batting options, who had also been isolated as the Indian team wanted to take a precautionary step.
This led to a situation where India only had five frontline batters, three uncapped, going into the final two T20Is. India lost the series as Sri Lanka managed to beat them in the last two matches. After the series ended, it was also revealed that Yuzvendra Chahal and Krishnappa Gowtham, who were isolated, tested positive. Apart from these two, Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya were also isolated.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Krishnappa Gowtham are still in Sri Lanka awaiting negative PCR Tests
Talking about Krunal, as per the reports on BDcrictime, the all-rounder has left the hotel in which they were staying. It has been reported that he left the Mount Lavinia Hotel on Wednesday morning and went to catch a flight to India. He contracted the virus on July 27 and had to be isolated. As a matter of fact, the second T20I had to be postponed.
Speaking about Chahal and Gowtham, the two players are scheduled to have an RT-PCR test done on them on Thursday. If they are able to return negative results, then they will be allowed to return to India. It should be noted that other players have reached home. Interestingly enough, Sandeep Warrier, who made his international debut in the final T20I, has even landed up at the Tamil Nadu Premier League along with R Sai Kishore, who was also part of that squad.
