Reports: PCB decides to award central contracts to umpires and match referees
The new contracts will witness a hike in pay for them.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to award central contracts to the match officials in the domestic circuit. Umpires and match referees are an integral part of the cricket who play a crucial role in the smooth conduct on the 22 yards. Ir requires immense concentration to perform duties on the field for an umpire and they deserve all the accolades coming their way in any form.
According to the reports in arysports.tv, Haroon Rasheed, the director of Cricket Operations of PCB, has conducted the interviews of domestic umpires and match referees. The process has been completed now and the list of the selected match officials is likely to be announced now.
Also, the central contracts will be awarded to them on the basis of their performance at the domestic level. The PCB will pay them a salary of Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,00,000 as per mentioned in the new contracts.
The stark difference in payments
Recently, PCB was criticised for not matching India’s credentials as far as the payments made to the umpires were concerned. The BCCI, in June, announced an increment for the umpires. They fixed a fee of Rs 40,000 per day to its top 20 umpires in the first-class matches except for the T20s. These match fees are more than what an Indian first-class cricketer is paid for a day.
The other umpires are receiving Rs 30,000 per day which is also a significant number and the same amount is being awarded to the match referees.
On the contrary, PCB pays only Rs 6,000 per day to its elite panel of umpires with 17.5% income tax for non-filer and 10% for the filer. Moreover, the Grade 1 umpires are entitled to get only Rs 5,500 per day which is extremely less when compared to their neighbours.
However, the new step from PCB is going to please the umpires and the match referees as they will finally earn the amount they richly deserve for the work they do.
