IPL 2022: S Sreesanth registers his name for mega auction
Sreesanth failed to make the final cut in the last year's mini-auction.
IPL 2022 will be a 10-team affair with the addition of two new franchises- Lucknow & Ahmedabad As per reports, the 15th edition of the marquee tournament will be held entirely in India behind closed doors for a period of two months i.e. from the last week of March to the last week of May.
While many rising and experienced players from India and across the globe have expressed their interest in registering their names for the IPL 2022 mega auction which is scheduled to be held on February 12 & 13 in Bengaluru, a veteran pacer has also shown his enthusiasm to be a part of the auction. He is none other than S Sreesanth.
After having failed to make the final cut in the last year’s mini-auction, Kerala speedster Shanthakumaran Sreesanth has once again decided to try his luck by registering his name for this year’s mega auction. As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, his base price is INR 50 lakhs.
Sreesanth’s IPL career so far
S Sreesanth last featured in the cash-rich event in the 2013 edition before he was banned from the game due to his alleged involvement in the infamous spot-fixing scandal which had also involved his then Rajasthan Royals teammates Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila. In the six editions that he was a part of between 2009-2013, the two-time World Cup winner had represented three teams – Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and the inaugural edition’s champions Rajasthan Royals respectively. He has managed to register 44 scalps from as many games in the competition.
During 2020/21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Sreesanth had picked up 13 wickets in six innings averaging 24.38 for Kerala.
After failing to make an impact at the last year’s auctions, it remains to be seen whether the 38-year-old would find a buyer as the aging cricketer toils hard to revive his career with the hope of proving his naysayers wrong at the twilight of what could have been a promising on-field career.
Coming back to IPL 2022 mega auction, all the eight existing teams have officially named their mandatory retentions just months before the event. Even the two new franchises have finalised their three respective picks in the draft.
