Reports: Suryakumar Yadav likely to be picked in Team India for the ODI series against Australia
Suryakumar Yadav muscled 392 runs in 15 games at a brilliant strike rate of 168.96 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019.
Suryakumar Yadav, the right-handed batsman from Mumbai has been knocking on Team India’s door for a while now. He is in stunning form with the bat as he did a commendable job in this season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Furthermore, there are several reports that he might get his first shot to play for the national side next year in the ODI series against Australia.
The young batsman led Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and played at his helm best. However, his side failed to qualify for the finals but he hogged the spotlight for his smart and hard-hitting. He muscled 392 runs in 15 games at a brilliant strike rate of 168.96 with four fifties and Yadav ended being the leading scorer of Mumbai. After the tournament, many former cricketers urged the selectors to have a check over Yadav’s form and offer him an opportunity to play for Team India.
Suryakumar Yadav might get his first shot as Indian cricketer
After winning the last ODI series for the year 2019 against West Indies, India will start their year with a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka followed by an important home ODI series against Australia. However, as per the reports of The Times of India, Yadav might replace Kedhar Jadhav in the 50-over series against Aussies starting on January 14.
And, coincidently the series opener will be played at Suryakumar Yadav’s home ground- Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. As per a BCCI source, if Yadav comes out to bat at number seven, then it will automatically strengthen the batting line up of the team. But, the problem is that Manish Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav can’t bowl whereas Kedhar Jadhav is a part-time spinner, who gives India an extra bowling option.
“If Surya comes in at No 7, our batting line-up will be really strengthened. The problem is that both Manish Pandey and Surya can’t bowl, whereas Kedar can sneak in a few overs of part-time spin,” a BCCI source said as quoted by Times of India.
There are chances that the selectors might offer Rohit Sharma with a much-needed break, who has been consistently playing for Team India since World Cup 2019 in the limited over format. Moreover, he played in the longer format series against South Africa and Bangladesh.
