After the T20Is, the Indian team will now play Australia in a four-match Test series starting December 6 at the Adelaide Oval. While the visiting team is considered the favourites to win the series, they still have to work on figuring the best playing XI. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting picked the XI for Australia ahead of the Adelaide Test and named the bowlers he would field from the Indian camp.

The Indians have a really strong pace bowling attack – the likes of Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav have all been in great form at home and abroad. The problem for the team management is not how to compose the attack but it is the problem of plenty. They also have three spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav with a different set of strengths.

He wants to go for Bhuvi, Umesh and Shami given their abilities, with the new ball and the old ball. “Their fast bowling brigade would be Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami. Probably the way I would go here in Australia. Shami is a very good reverse swing bowler, Bhuvneshwar is very good with the new ball,” Ponting said while talking to cricket.com.au.

Would pick the leg-spinner

One of the best Australian batsmen ever knows what the experienced off-spinner brings to the table but isn’t certain how successful Ravi Ashwin will be in terms of wickets. Hence he wants to keep a leg-spinner in Kuldeep Yadav in the XI as well.

“Spinner if I had to pick, I would go with Kuldeep, I know what Ashwin can do, he can bowl tight, I am just not sure how many wickets he would pick in these conditions especially starting in Adelaide and going to Perth. So if I was there would pick the leg-spinner as well.
