One must have seen Riley McCullum as the ‘ANZ coin toss child’ in dad Brendon McCullum‘s farewell Test in February 2016 at Christchurch. The young lad had expressed his elation in an interview and revealed that the memory was very dear. McCullum had slammed 54-ball century in that Test, which is the fastest ever in Test cricket. When he scored a 74-ball century against Sri Lanka in 2014, Riley received the news about his father scoring the then fastest century in Test cricket via a ground staff.

However, this was no news to Riley as he was used to seeing his dad breaking one record after another. However, it is not a usual phenomenon when it is the other way round. On Wednesday morning, Riley made his father proud by topping U14 regional tournament for his club Waikato Valley.

He was named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the current calendar year with a batting average of 22.93 and bowling average of 18.53. In fact, the proud father was present to witness his son play a match earlier today.

McCullum extended the courtesy by sharing a warm tweet which said, “Seen a few grounds, done a few things in this game but seeing your boy top of the pile of his U14 regional tournament, takes the cake. Onya Son!”

After a successful stint with Trinbago Knight Riders which saw them lift the title of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2017, McCullum is currently plying his trade in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the Rangpur Riders franchise.

The swashbuckling batsman was reunited with Chris Gayle for the first time in eight years after they last featured together for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. The duo which forms one of the deadliest opening partnership in T20 cricket, however, failed to deliver, registering an opening stand of just 31 off 4.2 overs.
