Rishabh Pant, the 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, made his debut a couple of years and hasn’t gone out of the national selectors’ radar by any stretch of the imagination. Last year, he made his Test debut against England and has churned out some exceptional performances both as a keeper and as a batsman. However, the Young Turk is yet to perform in the limited-overs versions of the sport.

Barring a half-century against Windies, the Uttarakhand-born has flattered to deceive in the three ODIs and 10 T20Is he has played thus far. He also didn’t find a place in the squad for the five-match series against New Zealand. Pant is a part of the T20I squad for the three-match series against the Black Caps. In the meantime, Shikhar Dhawan reckons Pant is an asset for India and he’ll make use of the chances.

“He’s an aggressive batsman and he can take away the game from the opposition in a jiffy. He’s a great asset for our team and I’m sure that he will grab this opportunity with both hands,” Dhawan was quoted as saying prior to the first T20I encounter at the Westpac Stadium.

I feel that I’ve got a lot of shots to offer

As far as Dhawan is concerned, he has tasted success in limited-overs cricket and has well and truly been one of the major reasons why the Men in Blue are a brute force in white-ball cricket. He is looking forward to the first T20I in Wellington and is confident of doing well.

“I feel like it’s a change of mindset and it depends on the type of wicket we are playing on. If there’s not much swing, naturally I feel that I’ve got a lot of shots to offer. That is how automatically the strike rate goes up,” he remarked.

“My last T20 season went really well and I’ll like to keep going with the same mindset and approach. Of course, this format demands aggressive batting and I’ll try to display it tomorrow and in the further matches,” Dhawan added.
