Rishabh Pant’s X-Factor and ability to win matches single-handedly is amazing, says Pravin Amre
Pant scored 488 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 162.66 with three half-centuries to his name and the best score of 78*.
Delhi Capital’s IPL 2019 campaign ended on May 10, as they lost the second qualifier to Chennai Super Kings in Vizag. This could be termed as a dream run for the Delhi-based franchise given that this was the first time they made it to the playoffs since 2012. One of the big reasons for their success this season was Rishabh Pant’s amazing aggressive cricket with the bat.
Pant scored 488 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 162.66 and averaged 37.53 with three half-centuries to his name and the best score of 78*. His highest score was an exhibition in clean hitting at the Wankhede Stadium against the Mumbai Indians and though such innings was few and far in between, his ability to change the game based on his batting alone impressed DC’s talent scout head Pravin Amre.
Rishabh Pant’s natural instincts should not be curbed, opines Amre
Pant was also the highest scorer for DC in their match against CSK and one of his match-winning innings came against SRH in the Eliminator match, where he scored 49 runs, but unfortunate habit of getting out at inopportune times continued, as he left the field with 5 more runs to get, which DC got despite losing some wickets.
“I saw Rishabh three years ago (when he joined Delhi) and when I see him now, I feel a lot of good has happened to him. He has got that X-factor and he can win games singlehandedly on his day,” Amre, a former India batsman was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Amre mentioned that Pant has to be left alone as it won’t be in his best interests to curb his natural aggression as he is full of talent. He also highlighted that though the southpaw has been criticized for his habit of not finishing the matches, something that might have gone against him while choosing the Indian squad for the upcoming World Cup, he knows what’s expected of him and is working hard to achieve that consistently.

“If you are talking about his finishing skills, he himself is aware (that he needs to finish games more often). When you are a match winner you have to take on the opposition in this format. You can’t play safe cricket, you have to take risks. With this type of players, you really have to mold them properly. You can’t tinker with their natural game. They play on instincts,” Amre further said.
