Veteran Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik shedded light on the roles of head coach Rahul Dravid and new skipper Rohit Sharma in taking the side to number one in ICC T20I rankings. The Men in Blue enjoyed a complete sweep win over West Indies in both ODIs and T20Is at home and so far, the combination of Rohit and Dravid has worked out really well starting from the T20Is against New Zealand last year. The Rohit Sharma-led side will now be up against Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series, starting from February 24.
In the few matches Rohit has captained for India, he has already received a lot of praises for his tactical usage of the bowlers and for ensuring that his side ends up on glory most days. The 34-year-old has been spot on in making field placements and rotating the bowlers as per situations. With the new ICC rule for slow over-rate, captains can’t take too much time in making strategies. However, Rohit was brilliant with his decisions against the Men in Maroon.
Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid plugged small holes: Dinesh Karthik
Karthik mentioned that it has been a delight to watch Rohit’s captaincy so far and reckoned the team is moving in the right direction with Rohit and Dravid’s guidance. He also added that India has been able to overcome its flaws alongside winning the series comfortably through Rohit and Dravid’s efforts.
“What I enjoyed most was Rohit’s captaincy. I thought he led the team beautifully. Tactically very, very sound, and I thoroughly enjoyed the way the team played in the last couple of series against West Indies,” Karthik was quoted as saying by Times Now.
“The new captain and there’s a new coach, I think they are taking the team in a fabulous direction. They’ve plugged small holes, which were probably there previously, and that has been the beautiful part about it. And along the way, in the journey, they’ve managed to become No.1,” he added
India suffered an early exit in the T20 World Cup 2021 with losses to Pakistan and New Zealand and a new-look side has been groomed for the upcoming edition in 2022.
