Rohit Sharma expresses disappointment over IPL 2018 campaign
Rohit says Mumbai Indians played 'bad cricket'
It was a disappointing campaign for the defending champions as they failed to make it to the playoffs of IPL 2018. This was also the first time that Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma failed to get past 300 runs as the 3 time IPL winners crashed out of the eleventh edition.
On the other side, Delhi Daredevils had a troublesome season but they ended the league in style. The trio of Sandeep Lamichhane, Amit Mishra, and Harshal Patel starred with three wickets apiece as they denied Mumbai a playoff spot.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying, “Disappointing on not being able to cross the finishing line.”
On the loss, the explosive batsman said: “Of course it is disappointing to stay on the losing side and not qualifying. We knew it was an important game for us. Hats off to Delhi, they played good cricket, bowled in the right areas. We also knew that chasing would be tough, considering the way the wicket played. But taking the excuse away, we played bad cricket.”
Match Details
Mumbai Indians crumbled under a disciplined Delhi bowling attack. Leg spinners Amit Mishra and Sandeep Lamichhane returned with three wickets apiece as the duo completely decimated a star-studded Mumbai batting lineup.
The visitors lost three quick wickets – Evin Lewis (48), Kieron Pollard (7) and Krunal Pandya (4) – in just five balls. Hardik Pandya provided some stability to the chase with his 27 and partnered with Rohit Sharma to add 43 runs before they were sent back as Mumbai slipped to 122 for seven in 14.5 overs. Ben Cutting tried his hand with a 19-ball 37 cameo before MI were dismissed for 163 in 19.3 overs.
The 2018 edition has been a closely fought contest. Delhi, at the bottom, finished the two points less than Mumbai.
