Veteran Indian batsman Rohit Sharma is set to head back to Mumbai for a routine medical check up. Rohit is currently with the national side on the tour to Sri Lanka. He plays in the middle order for the Indian team in the longest format of the game. The Mumbai lad was not given a chance in the first Test at Galle though. He was benched and was replaced by Hardik Pandya in the lineup.
He is not a part of the playing eleven in the ongoing second Test as well. In a recent statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Rohit Sharma will be heading back to India for a scheduled check up. Much to the relief of the fans, the statement clearly indicated that there is no serious problem as such. In fact, the routine check up is a follow up check up after his recent surgery.
“The BCCI medical team confirms that batsman Mr. Rohit Sharma will undergo a scheduled medical check up, as a follow up after his recent surgery,” the BCCI statement quoted.
No fitness concern
The statement, released under the signature of the acting board Secretary Amitabh Choudhary, further added that Rohit will leave for Mumbai on August 3 and is expected to rejoin the squad on the very next day. It was in November last year when Rohit was sidelined due to a thigh injury. He had subsequently underwent a thigh surgery in London. Following the surgery, he had to take a big break of almost four months before regaining total fitness again.
“There is no health or fitness concern and Mr. Rohit Sharma will fly to Mumbai later today i.e. August 3, 2017, and will rejoin the team tomorrow i.e. August 4, 2017,” the statement added further.
