Rohit Sharma pledges to come back stronger after failing to defend the title
He also failed to lead from the front with the bat.
The defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) fell agonisingly short of the target by 11 runs against the Delhi Daredevils (DD) and they were knocked out of the Indian Premier League (IPL). There were numb faces in the dugout even as their skipper Rohit Sharma was left wondering where went wrong for his team this year after winning the tournament last year. However, he has now come up with a message for the fans of the franchise and has promised them to come back stronger next year.
Rohit Sharma himself had a poor season with the bat and failed to lead from the front. This was the first time he couldn’t score more than 300 runs in the tournament and almost got himself injured in the last league game. To add to his misery, he bagged 3 golden ducks this year while scoring 286 runs in the 14 outings. No wonder Mumbai struggled to find the finishing touch in most of the matches. Even their finishers, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard, were inconsistent which didn’t help the cause of the team.
Rohit’s tweet:
Rohit Sharma was visibly disappointed after the loss on Sunday which ended their title defence. They failed to bring their ‘A’ game to the fore in the must-win encounter. Though the skipper has taken all the responsibility and has pledged to come back even stronger in the next season. “Disappointing to be out of the tournament, I guess that’s life and sport. We can’t always get what we want. We did fight hard but I guess the opposition were just a little better on the day. Will look to turn things around next year,” he tweeted.
Mumbai ended their season at the fifth position in the points table with 12 points to their name and their NRR was the best among all the teams after registering the biggest win of the season against the KKR.
