Rohit will be eager to make this opportunity count in Tests.
Rohit Sharma, India’s limited overs captain has been in the news recently for his stupendous innings in recent times. In the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma became the first ever batsman to score a century in all three formats of a tour. The 30-year-old also scored his third double hundred in one-day internationals in the second game in Mohali.
The stand-in skipper played a magnificent knock in the second T20I in Indore, he scored his second T20I century in a mere 35 deliveries and equalled the record of the fastest T20I century ever. These blistering knocks took social media by storm and his nickname ‘Hitman’ came into action pretty soon.
What’s The Origin?
In an interview to India Today, Rohit discussed how the name may have first cropped up. “Ravi bhai [Shastri] was commenting and there is a guy called PD in the crew, he said after the game that ‘you played like a Hitman’ because my name is Ro-‘Hit’. Ravi was standing there, heard it and said it during the commentary. I think it caught up like that,” he said.
Sharma’s explosive hitting demands for a nickname of this sort, PD was absolutely right on calling him ‘Hitman’. After the incident, the name ‘Hitman’ popped up on the big screen during many games of the Indian premier league(IPL).
The Next Assignment?
