Rohit Sharma set to don the Mumbai jersey in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Rohit played his last domestic game for Mumbai in 2017.
India opening batsman Rohit Sharma is all set to return for his domestic team Mumbai in the knockout game of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy against Bihar. The right-handed batsman will be available to play the final phase of the tournament as he is not a part of the Test team which is taking on the Windies. Mumbai’s selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar has therefore decided to include him in the squad.
Rohit played his last domestic game for Mumbai in 2017 when he was looking to make a comeback to the national squad. He went on to play in the IPL before being named in the Champions Trophy squad. The opener has since been in sparkling form in the limited-overs formats. Most recently he led India to their 7th Asia Cup title in the UAE. He assumed captaincy duties in place of Virat Kohli who took a break after a hectic series against England.
Mumbai to be led by Shreyas Iyer
“Yes, he will…we’ll pick the team on October 10. Rohit will play for us in one or two games. The team will be led by Shreyas Iyer, who captained Mumbai in their last two games in the league stage,” Agarkar was quoted as saying to The Times of India.
Like Rohit, other Indian players who are not a part of the Test team could also turn out for their respective states. His opening partner Shikhar Dhawan might also play a game or two for Delhi who have qualified for the next round. The Delhi side is currently led by Gautam Gambhir. Dhawan is on a vacation but will be on his way back soon as he will have to open the innings with Rohit in the limited-overs series against West Indies.
