Rohit Sharma's nets session video not a true reflection of his injury, says BCCI source
Rohit Sharma's absence from the squads for Australia has left the fans and experts baffled.
The confusion surrounding Rohit Sharma’s injury is showing absolutely no signs of coming to an end. In the latest turn of events, a BCCI source has said that the star batsman could still make it to the tour of Australia if he proves his match fitness when he returns to action in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
On Monday, BCCI announced the ODI, T20I and Test squads for the tour of Australia and Rohit Sharma was not a part of any of the squads. The reason behind his absence from the squads was the hamstring injury he sustained while playing against Kings XI Punjab on October 18. But just an hour after the squads were announced, Mumbai Indians sprung a big surprise by announcing that their captain has hit the nets.
The franchise posted pictures from the training session, showing the right-handed batsman batting in the nets. Unsurprisingly, questions were raised from several quarters over the situation. Rohit still needs to clear a fitness test conducted by his IPL team physio to make it to the squads but given that he has started batting, the injury does not look that serious and thus BCCI’s decision to leave him out was surprising.
Rohit Sharma’s injury is more serious
While the Indian cricket fraternity is busy speculating about the entire episode, a BCCI source has further added to the confusion by saying that the net session video posted by Mumbai Indians does not give a true reflection of Rohit Sharma’s injury. The source also stated that Rohit’s injury is more serious than it was believed at the start.
“Rohit’s injury is more severe than believed initially. The nets session video posted by the franchise on Monday may not be a true reflection of where it stands,” the source was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times. A Grade 1 hamstring tear usually takes four to six weeks to heal, a Grade 2 tear could take up to eight weeks.
If it is only a strain, the player can be fit in a week to 10 days. Only time will tell the extent of Rohit’s injury but at present, he is looking doubtful for Mumbai’s high-octane clash against Royals Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday.
