Russel Arnold is a fan favourite. Not for his on-field achievements or his commentary but for the jewels he drops on social media to trigger Asian fans outside of Sri Lanka. As all the Asian teams gear up for the battle to crown the ODI champions of the continent with the Asia Cup 2018 Arnold put out a couple of tweets that as usual didn’t go down well with most and he was at the receiving end of some really mean comments.
In the Asia Cup 2018, Sri Lanka are pitted in Group B alongside Bangladesh and Afghanistan. They will have to beat both the teams to qualify for the Super Four or if they win one either of them has to lose both their games. Super Four will be the first chance Sri Lanka get to face either India and Pakistan. While the world is waiting for the arch-rivals to meet Arnold has other expectations.
He quoted a tweet that asked fans to predict the teams that will qualify for the Super Four of the Asia Cup as well as the finalists from among Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Arnold wrote- “Sri Lanka … Sri Lanka … Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka”
Sri Lanka … Sri Lanka … Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka 💪💪💪💪 https://t.co/CgwCv965yW

He received quite some hate in the replies and eventually tweeted that he wants to see both Sri Lanka vs India and Sri Lanka vs Pakistan games at the Asia Cup. The former cricketer went on to add that it will be a shame if only one of it materializes.
“I do hope we get to see both #SLvInd and #SLvPak games at #AsiaCup … it will be a shame if we only get to see one of those games,” Arnold wrote.

Fans interpreted it as if he was trying to say that either of the teams will be knocked out before the Super Four clash. They tried to correct him and expressed that he should be actually worried about his team’s performance and whether they will even qualify for the next round.
Here are some of the meanest replies:
Even if you say Sri lanka 100 times they are not gonna make it to the final.
Even Afghanistan is stronger than them.#AsiaCup— Chetan Meena (@chetanmeena6791) September 8, 2018

Russel… u never learn, do u?! You've had soooo many instances of talking too much and too big before a SL tournament…. and then having to go into hiding once your team loses! Why have such a big build up, when ur teams gonna lose anyway!!!

I think it is more of a bilateral series between India and Pakistan with practice matches in between 😂

Don't worry about India and Pakistan ,first get through your group .😂
