Ryan Harris wants Peter Handscomb back in the Australian team
"He has done a lot of hard work."
As we near the much-anticipated part of the Australian summer, when Virat Kohli’s troops will be going to Australia, eyeing their maiden Test series win on the Australian soil, things from both the teams have started to take shape majorly. India have announced their squad to face the Australians, making a few surprising selections as well.
Australia, depleted in their batting stocks along with missing their two frontline batsmen, are expected to announce their squad soon. Former Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris has expressed his views about his willingness to include Peter Handscomb in the playing eleven. The Victorian batsman found form when he scored 123 against South Australia in the Sheffield Shield encounter.
Handscomb was included in the Test squad against Pakistan in the UAE, however, failed to find a place in the playing eleven. In the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner, Travis Head, Aaron Finch, and Marnus Labuschagne were elevated to the lineup but delivered mixed results. With Usman Khawaja also racing against the clock to be fit, there are plenty of opportunities for players to press their cases.
“Handscomb is the one I would like to see in there. He has done a lot of hard work on his technique and his game and he has gone away and got quite a lot of runs. He made a hundred in Shield cricket and made four or five fifties in a row in JLT, so he’s probably one who could potentially come in,” Harris was quoted as saying by SEN Radio.
Handscomb’s brilliant start to test career
Peter Handscomb got his first international break when he was given a call to the Test squad in 2016 when Australia were humiliated by South Africa in their paradise. He had a blistering start to his career and passed the fifty plus score four times and became the first Australian batsman to do.
He also held a better batting average than Don Bradman briefly. He suffered a relatively lean patch after that, however, performed well in the 3rd test in Ranchi during Australia’s tour of India in 2017, thus helping them securing a draw.
