SA vs AUS: Virat Kohli lauds Aiden Markram's century at Johannesburg
The young South African batsman slammed an impressive ton against a decent Australian pace attack.
Cricket finally resumed again in the aftermath of the ball tampering incident. The fourth test between South Africa and Australia began yesterday in what is said to be Morne Morkel’s last game. South Africa only need a draw to win the series while the Aussies need to pull up something extraordinary to win the game and level the series.
The game started with the Proteas winning the toss and electing to bat on a good surface. The Proteas batsmen seemed to be in no trouble as they played the Aussie bowlers quite comfortably. The body language of the Australians was, not quite the same as we are used to seeing in the recent past.
Against the run of play, the Aussies staged a comeback and picked up few quick wickets to scare the Proteas. However, Aiden Markram, the 23-year old stood tall and scored a brilliant 152. He has already notched up 443 runs so far across the four matches including two centuries and a half-century. His incredible knock ranks him among one of the best young batsmen in the modern day cricket and caught the eyes of Indian stalwart Virat Kohli too.
Virat Kohli praised Markram a week ago on twitter saying that Markram was a delight to watch. Yesterday, Kohli tweeted with emojis, words apparently unable to do justice to the South African’s talent.
Here is the tweet
“It’s quite a special feeling. There are a lot of players that I look up to who are a bit older than me, and he is one of them. His competitiveness is something to admire and his motivation to keep scoring runs is something I’ve tried to take on board,” Markram was quoted as saying.
While Markram is having a good time against Australia, things were not the same when the Indians were in South Africa. Markram and his team struggled having lost the ODI series 5-1 and making a high score of 32. He felt responsible for the series loss as he didn’t do well on the personal front. However, good players make a comeback much sooner than later and his current performances are a treat to watch.
