SA vs IND: Here's why Jasprit Bumrah left the field on Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test in Centurion
Bumrah picked one wicket before leaving the field.
India and South Africa are up against each other on day three of the Boxing Day Test in Centurion where the second day got washed off completely. After India witnessed a complete collapse in session one of the game, Indian bowlers found their rhythm to keep the momentum on their end. However, there came up one unfortunate incident featuring Jasprit Bumrah after which the pacer had to leave the field.
During the 11th over of SA’s innings, Bumrah was bowling to Rassie van der Dussen and during his follow-through, he twisted his ankle severely. The Indian physio reached the field immediately and Bumrah was seen going back with him. It was a good sign that the pacer walked off without any support, but the extent of his injury is still not known.
While the pacer reached the dugout, he was seen wearing a bandage and it would be hoped that he returns to action soon. It was only Bumrah who fetched the first breakthrough for India while dismissing skipper Dean Elgar quite early. It remains to be seen when the star pacer of visitors would be able to mark his return.
Talking of the game so far, India dominated day one of the game by putting 272 runs on the board while losing three wickets. KL Rahul brought absolute class yet again to the fore by smashing his seventh Test ton. He gained some support from Ajinkya Rahane and Mayank Agarwal but that couldn’t last long. Day two got washed off completely but the first session of day three didn’t turn out to be very fine for India.
While assessing Bumrah’s ankle, it has been reported that he has suffered a sprain and the further update would come to the public soon. Meanwhile, Iyer has taken the field as his substitute.
From 272/3 to 327/10, India collapsed in no time as Lungi Ngidi bagged a classy six-for. While batters from the host nation came up to bat, the Indian bowlers displayed their A-game as they got four wickets early. At the time of writing this article, SA are playing on 33 runs while losing their four wickets. Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have picked one wicket each while Mohammed Shami has two to his credit.
