Sachin Tendulkar feels that Yuvraj Singh will entertain the Mumbai crowd
The 37-year-old hasn't enjoyed much success in the IPL of late but will be looking to turn the tables this time around.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to commence today as the defending champions Chennai Super Kings take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians will begin their campaign from Sunday as they face the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede stadium. A lot has been going around in the Mumbai camp.
Amongst the newly acquired players in this year’s auction was veteran Yuvraj Singh who was sold for his base price of 1 crore. The left-handed batsman was released by the Kings XI Punjab after a really poor season last year. The 37-year-old hasn’t enjoyed much success in the IPL but will be looking to turn the tables in what might be his last season.
His former teammate and currently mentor of the MI side, Sachin Tendulkar inspired confidence in the southpaw’s ability and stated that Mumbai’s crowd is going to be entertained with Yuvraj’s special ability to clear the ring effortlessly. The Mumbai Indians posted the same quote engraved in Yuvraj’s picture from the practice session.
The Player of the Tournament of India’s successful campaign in the 2011 World Cup still feels there is a bit of cricket left in him. Since he hasn’t been considered by the Indian team for a long time, Yuvraj is unlikely to be in the reckoning for the 2019 World Cup. He also hasn’t taken part in the domestic tournaments of late for his state side Punjab.
The left-handed batsman may find it difficult to break into the starting XI. With Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan having played some fantastic knocks in the Syed Ali Mushtaq tournament, they’ll certainly be the first preference of the Mumbai management. Also with the likes of all-rounders in Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Ben Cutting, it remains to see how early does Yuvraj get a chance to prove himself.
