Sachin Tendulkar thinks Virat Kohli has placed the Indian team in a great position to finish the game
He was eventually dismissed for 103.
Virat Kohli is busy shattering records in the ongoing Test series against England. He has done everything right with the bat so far and apart from a blip at Lord’s, has scored 400 runs in the other two matches. At Trent Bridge, he was extremely cautious on his way to the three-figure mark. With every run, the Indian captain strengthened the team’s position and slammed his 23rd ton in the longest format of the game. However, the day has been more special for him by Sachin Tendulkar as she lavished praise on him.
Kohli was, in a way, lucky today as he was dropped on 93 by Keaton Jennings off James Anderson. After denying him a wicket for 5 innings, he was lured into a false drive by the veteran but the fielder was not up to the task. He played superbly throughout the day and was in no fuss whatsoever at any point in both the sessions. It was all about wearing down the opposition it seemed and the visitors were successful in it.
Sachin praises Pujara as well
As soon as Virat Kohli reached his second century of the series, Twitter was filled with praise for him even as Michael Vaughan once again asserted that he is the best batsman in the world. With 440 runs in 6 innings, the Indian skipper is ruling the charts comprehensively in this series and Jonny Bairstow is second with only 206 runs. Sachin Tendulkar was in awe of him as well and lavished praise on him and Cheteshwar Pujara as well who struck form with a 72-run knock.
It was the partnership between the duo which frustrated the hosts. They added only 70 runs in the first session and were cautious while playing under overcast conditions. They stitched 113 runs for the third wicket and they spent almost 48 overs together which wore out England completely. Though Pujara was sent back on 72, Kohli continued in grand style and notched up a ton.
He was eventually dismissed by Chris Woakes on 103 by pinning him in front of the stumps. At the time, India’s lead was approaching 450 and the visitors have continued playing in the final session as well.
