Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Brian Lara to play T20 tournament in India
The tournament will be played across cities in India from Feb. 2-16.
Former cricketers always have that attraction value for many viewers given the nostalgia that is attached to them. We have seen retired players taking place in Masters T20 League in Dubai and formerly as well, Sunil Gavaskar, Viv Richards, and others have played in the Masters series in the 90s. But the most popular tournament of retired players was the Sachin Tendulkar-Shane Warne venture Cricket All-Stars.
It had stars like Brian Lara, Wasim Akram, Allan Donald, Courtney Walsh, Saqlain Mushtaq apart from Tendulkar and Warne themselves playing in three baseball grounds in major cities of United States of America and gave fans a massive dose of nostalgia, as well making it a profitable venture, which left fans wanting more. But the dispute between the two stars led to the abandonment of the series.
The tournament to feature famous former cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar
But it seems fans will get their fix next year as Tendulkar, Lara, Rhodes and more are going to feature in the Road Safety World Series in India in 2020. This World Series is planned as an annual T20 tournament featuring retired cricketers from five countries- Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and India. The tournament will be played across cities in India from Feb. 2-16.
Apart from Sachin and Lara, the tournament will feature the likes of Virender Sehwag, Australian Brett Lee, Sri Lankan Tillakaratne Dilshan and South Africa’s Jonty Rhodes. The cricketers are expected to spread the message of road safety during this League. The tournament has received a No-Objection Certificate from the BCCI to promote the T20 cricket league as an annual event titled Road Safety World Series.
According to Hindustan Times, the League is promoted by Swach Bharat Surakshit Bharat, a trust working closely with the RTO department of Maharashtra and it is conceptualized by the Professional Management Group (PMG). Sachin Tendulkar is the official brand ambassador of the tournament and Viacom 18 are the broadcast partners, with Jio and Voot being the digital partners.
Brian Lara was the second batsman to make 11,000 runs in Tests and Tendulkar broke his record and went onto register a world record 15,921 runs in the format with 51 centuries to his name. The right-hander retired with over 34,000 runs and 100 centuries in international cricket in 2013.
