Sadeera Samarawickrama cleared after undergoing CT Scan

Fielding at short-leg is one of the most difficult jobs in the game and one always has to put a lot of things at stake when he fields in that position. Sri Lankan fielder Sadeera Samarawickrama, who was fielding at short-leg on Saturday, received a painful blow on the helmet in the 30th over.

Dilruwan Perera’s short delivery was pulled hard by Murali Vijay, only to smash that into Samarawickrama’s helmet. It was clearly a painful blow and the on-field umpire Nigel Llong immediately called the physios. After checking out for a concussion, it was clear that Samarawickrama was struggling and he was taken off the field.

He didn’t appear on the field again as he was rushed to the hospital for a CT scan. Incidentally, this is the second time in the series when Samarawickrama was rushed off the field after getting hit whilst fielding at short-leg. On both occasions, it was Murali Vijay, who previously pulled it straight to his ribs in the second Test held in Nagpur.

We will go with the medical advice from now on – SL management

After completing the CT scan, the Sri Lankan management suggested they will go with the medical advice from now on. They confirmed that no risk will be taken with player’s health and they’ll abide by what the medical department will say Sunday morning.

The medical department has already suggested him to take rest and didn’t appear on the field for the entire first day. His appearance on day 2 is still under the scanner and there has been an official confirmation coming in from their camp giving a clear picture of the current situation.

“He was hit on the head. We did some precautionary scans, everything is clear but we have to monitor him tonight and then doctors will see him tomorrow morning and decide whether he will play tomorrow or not. He is back in the changing rooms but we will have to be very careful making a decision, so tomorrow morning is the time we’ll look at him. We will go with medical advice from now on.”
