Saeed Ajmal might well quit international cricket: There are strong rumors that the out of favor Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal is considering retirement from international cricket. Saeed Ajmal who was banned from bowling due to an illegal action in September last year, had made his international return against Bangladesh in bilateral ODI series, in April this year with a modified action. But with the remolded action he looked no way near his best.

With his previous action, he heavily relied on the Doosra but now with the changed action his premiere ball is not effective. Even his variations which once use to unsettle even the top batters of the world have become ineffective.

In the ongoing National T20 championship in Pakistan, the offie has scalped only two wickets in four matches while he has conceded 124 runs against it. Before this T20 tournament commenced in Pakistan, the selectors of Pakistan had shown faith in him and this competition was to be the litmus test of his career, as good performances here would have got him the national call-up.

But after this flop show, PTI quoted source close to the spinner saying, “Saeed is disappointed with his own form and his failure to come to grips with his modified bowling action. That is why he also skipped Faisalabad’s last match in the tournament in Rawalpindi.”

While it is notable that earlier the chief selector Haroon Rasheed had said that, “It is never easy to change your bowling action after you have bowled with it and enjoyed success for so many years. We feel for Ajmal and the problems he must be going through. But at least he is trying and like I have said the doors are still open for him if he can show us his new action has also become effective.”
