Sandeep Warrier rose from ashes to make first overseas trip to Calypso land
Sandeep's sojourn has been a roller-coaster ride since he has topped wicket-getter charts for Kerala with 44 wickets last Ranji season.
Is this lady luck?
“Yes, maybe,” he chuckles in a telephonic conversation with CricTracker.
Being a vital cog in steering Kerala to a historic Ranji Trophy semifinal earlier this year to getting a surprise call up for his first overseas tour, things happened in a jiffy for Sandeep Warrier. Sandeep has 44 wickets in his kitty as a set piece for Kerala last season. His Ranji Trophy heroics orchestrated red carpet to KKR starting XI. Despite playing only three IPL matches for purple & gold outfits this season, his contribution extended with outstanding fielding along with two scalps.
He caught the eyes of cricket experts and BCCI selectors as the 28-year-old right arm-medium pacer made it to India A team against Sri Lanka A. In the five-match one-dayers and two-Tests he trapped eight wickets. On one fine Monday morning (July 22), he got a text message regarding his Tour to Caribbean lands. “This is the first time I am travelling overseas and the feeling of playing for my country on foreign lands is a proud moment for me.”
Asked about his lady luck, he said, “Since I got engaged to my fiance, I have been playing well. So hopefully she is lucky for me.” Now, he seems to rose from the ashes
It was not very long ago that, Sandeep had to face diminutive times as he was suspended from his state team and his performance was marred by injuries. To rub salt on the wounds, he went unsold in the IPL 2019 auction first time. However, luck smiled at him and he got to play for KKR. Now, what we need to wait for is, if Sandeep will be the real king of good times.
Swinging the ball both ways; Sandeep you beauty!
Bowlers swinging the ball both ways are rare and one among the rarity rose Kerala‘s Sandeep Warrier. of late, Sandeep has been flexing his muscles with his tremendous chin music. He has been focusing mostly on the process than examining his performance based on results. Cricket a few say while experts reckon reading the game with maturity. “I don’t generally assess my performances based upon the result rather I focus mostly on if I am going through the right process,” The right-arm medium-pacer reveals on his thought process.
If he honed the skills well, Sandeep would be a rare breed of new-ball bowlers, who can find his place sharing dressing room with the senior team.
As someone once said, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This is what Sandeep follows. And the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni has always focussed mostly on the process rather than the results, he is able to produce. Now, Sandeep comes up with something similar approach to the game.
West Indies tracks being bowling favourable mostly, and also called the land of shooting stars. Sandeep aims to hit the deck with a speed of 140+ kmph consistently. “Now, it’s important to prepare mentally for me. I will give my best as I would want to continue bowling with the pace I generally do.”
The Thrissur lad will join India A team which will lock horns with West Indies A in the second unofficial Test starting from Wednesday (July 31).
