Sania Mirza likely to miss the India-Pakistan clash in Champions Trophy
Shoaib cited that the French Open, one of the most celebrated competitions of the international tennis calendar, would be underway at the same time.
The 2017 edition of the Champions Trophy is around the corner. One of the key attractions of the tournament is the much awaited clash between India and Pakistan. The two teams are set to lock horns in the high-intensity game at Birmingham on June 4. Over the years, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has often been seeing cheering the Indo-Pak clashes in the stands.
She is arguably the only person who has had no clear favorites in the India-Pakistan clashes. Being an Indian, she has always had the inclination towards supporting the Indian team. On the other hand, she has her husband, Shoaib Malik, representing the Pakistani team. The tennis ace has handled the situations with great wits. Sania Mirza has often said that she supports India but hopes for her husband to do well.
Now, with another India and Pakistan clash coming up, one would have expected to see Sania Mirza in the stands of Birmingham this year. However, as per the recent reports in Geo News, Sania will not be able to witness the cricket action this time around. Her husband Shoaib Malik confirmed the same news in a recent conversation.
French Open commitments
Shoaib remarked that Sania will not be able to make it to the venue since she will be busy with her professional assignments. Shoaib cited that the French Open, one of the most celebrated competitions of the international tennis calendar, would be underway at the same time and hence it would not be possible for Sania to make it to Birmingham.
The qualifying rounds of the French Open are stated to kick start from May 22. The main rounds of the celebrated tournament, scheduled to be played on clay in Paris, will commence on May 28. In the last couple of years, Sania Mirza has emerged as one of the most successful doubles players in the WTA.
