There have been a lot of talks going over who can fill in the shoes of legendary MS Dhoni behind the wickets after he drew curtains over his international career. Rishabh Pant has impressed critics quite a lot after showing great work behind stumps for the Delhi franchise. He has also contributed with his bat well in the IPL 2020 season, and that is why he has become an integral part of DC in death overs.

In the same context, former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has backed Rishabh Pant as his favourite wicketkeeper for replacing MS Dhoni. He further explained that going with Pant will fetch in several other benefits for Team India. It will help the side to maintain the left and right-hand batting combinations.

“In terms of wicket-keeping, I think it would be Rishabh Pant. I think the way he started this year’s IPL and I think it is very important to have a left-hander as an option because for Team India when it comes to the middle order, it helps to balance out the right-handers,” said Bangar on Star Sports show, Cricket Connected.

Former Indian pacer and commentator Ashish Nehra stated that he is in agreement with Bangar’s statements and said that Pant needs to be backed by Team India. Nehra emphasized on the fact that it is very important to know which format you are playing. If you talk about Test cricket and the best wicketkeeper has to be chosen, then the mindset of the captain and coach also plays a significant role.

Rishabh Pant should be backed: Ashish Nehra

“I am in total agreement with Sanjay Bangar, I think they should go ahead with Rishabh Pant. Pant should be backed! Every player needs to be backed when it comes to international cricket,” added Nehra.

Delhi Capitals are sitting on the second spot in IPL 2020 points table after winning their four out of five matches played. They are set to face Rajasthan Royals in their next outing in Sharjah, the ground which is known for hosting a run-fest again and again in this season of IPL. The short boundaries of the ground allow batsmen to have an upper hand in the game.
