England Test team is spoilt for choices at the moment. They have so many all-rounders in their ranks which has led to the likes of Stuart Broad sitting out of the team in the first Test against the Windies in Barbados. Sam Curran was preferred ahead of him which has left the former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar helpless. He criticised the move strongly and termed it a bizarre selection.
However, the former England player Michael Vaughan didn’t like it and reminded Sanjay that the same England team defeated the World number 1 Test team India by 4-1 last year in September. He also stressed the fact that Joe Root and Co. went ahead and whitewashed Sri Lanka in their own den with a similar kind of strategy.
Manjrekar gives it back to Vaughan
Sanjay Manjrekar also decided to give it back to Vaughan and said that he didn’t forget India’s loss at all but insisted him at having a long-term goal. He taunted his England counterpart that the short-term success looks good only for a short period of time. It seems that the commentator Manjrekar lost his cool as he pointed out how England has won only one title so far despite playing its first international game back in 1877.
“Not forgetting at all. It’s despite their strange selections that they won. Short term success is never a good indicator. Just one ICC title for a team that played its first international in 1877 tells you something,” Manjrekar wrote.
The 53-year-old further took a dig at England‘s historic win in Sri Lanka saying that the hosts had their weakest ever team while also highlighting that their series win margin of 4-1 over India didn’t really highlight the way matches were played. Barring the Lord’s Test, India were in with a chance to win every other game but England had just enough in the tank to sustain.
Vaughan is yet to respond to Manjrekar’s back-to-back responses and it remains to be seen if the heating banter continues between them.
Here’s the thread of the convo:

Also SL that England faced in SL was the weakest its ever been, and India, well, 4-1 was a flattering score line for England, you know that as well as I do. Long term sustained success is a true reflection of a great team. Let’s see what the future holds for England. 👍 https://t.co/FHuLE0g6hu
