Sarfraz Ahmed unfazed by talks of his removal as Pakistan captain

Sarfraz Ahmed is in the middle of a purple patch as far as captaining Pakistan in T20 cricket is concerned. Under his leadership, the Men in Green have won 11 consecutive series in the 20-overs format. He has also done reasonably in Test cricket as Pakistan recently beat Australia in the two-match series, though they couldn’t get over the line in the opening Test.

However, his performance in the ODI format has been a tad disappointing. His team lost the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after failing to progress to the final. During the event, his side lost a couple of times to arch-rivals India and then went on to lose against Bangladesh at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi to bow out of the tournament.

Such confusions do affect the captain

Recently, Ehsan Mani, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) iterated that the decision to keep the 31-year-old as the skipper will be taken after the recommendations of the cricket committee, headed by chief Mohsin Khan. In the meantime, the Karachi-born wicketkeeper-batsman mentioned that he isn’t concerned about the talks doing the rounds.

“Players who are performing well do not get affected by such comments, however, the atmosphere becomes such that it automatically starts affecting the team. Such confusions do affect the captain and the players, as they are worried over the captaincy change,” Sarfraz was quoted as saying in Business Recorder.

Pakistan clean swept New Zealand in the three-match T20I series. They are now scheduled to lock horns with the Black Caps in the three-match ODI series, which starts on Wednesday, November 07. Talking about his goals in the upcoming fixtures, Sarfraz said, “We will now be playing a different format i.e. ODIs, where we need to improve as we would be playing a 50-over World Cup next year.”
