South Africa are all set to host England for a three match ODI series in January next year. Both the teams have some quality players and genuine match-winners in their line-up and this will be an important series in terms of preparation for the 50 over ICC Cricket World Cup in October 2023. The Proteas last played an ODI series at home against Bangladesh in March, which they went on to lose 2-1.
The coming series will be a great chance for South Africa to stamp their authority back at home against the World Champions England. The two teams previously met each other this year in a three-match ODI series in England, which was drawn 1-1. According to the South Africa vs England schedule, the first and second ODI is scheduled to take place on January 27 and January 29 respectively at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein before the third and final ODI at the Diamond Oval in Kimberly on February 1.
The packed schedule for South Africa will help the team try out few more names from the bench and shortlist the squad for the mega ICC event next year. Interestingly, the South Africa vs England Stats depict an intense battle between two teams.
In 66 ODIs they have played, England have won 29 while South Africa have won 31, with five games ending in no result and a solitary tie. There is not much to separate the two sides given how the South Africa vs England Stats and head-to-head results has panned out.
Meanwhile, England will not have the likes of Ben Stokes in their ODI setup after his retirement from the format. The all-rounder played a substantial innings in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 to take his side home. Experts and coaches still feel he might reconsider taking back his retirement.
