SCG not to hold the next Sheffield Shield Match
In a recent turn of events, news report is coming in that Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) has been stripped from the next Sheffield Shield match because of the previous one’s abandonment due to an unsafe playing surface.
“The Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust notes the decision to relocate this weekend’s Sheffield Shield match from the SCG,” a spokesman said. He further added,”The SCG remains ready to host cricket at the highest level. The Trust will work closely with Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia to ensure that the next Sheffield Shield match, set down to start on 27 November, takes place as normal at the SCG.”
The Sydney Cricket Ground is the home ground for New South Wales who will play their next game against Tasmania in Bankstown Oval.
It has to be said though that the abandonment of the Sheffield Shield match between NSW and Victoria has cost the home side six points and done damage to the reputation of the SCG, its custodians at the Trust and its NSW Blues tenants.
Apparently this is not the first time that SCG has been abandoned from hosting the matches due to poor surface.Tour matches played by South Africa in 2012 and England the following year showed a ground which was not fit to host an international venture.
But the SCG has bounced back every time and provided some great cricketing matches and we can just hope that is the case when West Indies turns up next year to play on the SCG.
