IPL 2019: Shane Warne & Harsha Bhogle involve in a Twitter war over Mankad controversy

The IPL 2022 mega auction is around the corner. The much-awaited event will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru with all the participating teams looking forward to outbidding each other at the auction table. Meanwhile, the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a 10-team affair with two new franchises being introduced- Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively.

Ahead of the auction, many players from India and across the globe have shown enthusiasm by registering their names. Meanwhile, veteran cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle has picked two players who are expected to fetch big bucks in the two-day event and they are young wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan and emerging Tamil Nadu batter Shahrukh Khan.

“Ishan Kishan, because he ticks off an Indian player, left-hander, wicketkeeper… left-hand top-order wicketkeeper, that’s three boxes you’re looking for,” said Bhogle while speaking.

Heaping praise on Shahrukh, Harsha added that the Tamil Nadu cricketer is big and built like Yusuf Pathan and also said that he has the ability to make his presence felt at the crease just like how Yusuf used to do in his prime.

“I’m expecting him to do really well this year because there is a spark about him, and he’s got a huge presence at the crease. He’s big built, a bit like Yusuf Pathan. You know, Yusuf Pathan in his prime when he was batting, he had that presence about him at the crease, and I find a little bit of that in Shahrukh Khan,”  he said.

Pakistan cricketer Shaheen Afridi has opened up on the three batters who would comprise his dream hat trick. The left-arm seamer said that the Indian batting triumvirate of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli will make his dream hat trick.

“Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli,” said Shaheen Afridi on the show 25 questions hosted by ESPNCricinfo. Shaheen Afridi also said that his performance with the ball against the Indian side in the 2021 T20 World Cup was a special one.

Adding that it was a historic occasion, Afridi revealed that performing against the Indian side was the highlight of 2021 for him.

“I had many good performances, including five-fors in Tests but my most memorable performance was during our victory against India. It was a historical match and matches with India draw a big audience. Performing against India was a highlight for me in 2021. It was a great year for me and hopefully, you will see good performances in 2022 too,” said Shaheen Afridi as quoted.

Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc won the Allan Border medal for the very first time for his performance in the last calendar year. Starc picked 17 wickets in five Test matches at an average of 33.23 in 2021 and was the second leading wicket-taker for Australia.

In the recently completed Ashes series, the left-arm pacer picked 19 wickets in five matches at an average of 25.36. He was the only pacer in both the camps to play all five matches of the series. Starc took 11 wickets in three ODIs last year at an average of 10.63.

He also won the Men’s ODI player of the year award for his performance in the format. After receiving these awards, Starc reflected on his struggle in the last two years and mentioned that there were times when he didn’t want to play cricket at all.

“The last two years, as life is at the moment, there’s a lot of ups and downs. You find ways to adapt and what not, but it’s a reflection of the support base I have had throughout those two years as well. There’s certainly been times when I haven’t played my best cricket or certainly times over those two years where I didn’t want to play any cricket,” Starc said.

Mitchell Starc also mentioned how his wife Alyssa Healy and other fellow teammates supported him during this difficult phase in his life. He also added that his wife supported him despite being a cricketer and having a busy schedule.

“I’m very thankful for my support networks and in particular (my wife) Alyssa, to play cricket at the highest level (and) be there to support me as well, I can’t thank her enough for that. I’ve got a wife that plays at the highest level and a couple of my closest mates who play International cricket, so I’ve got a pretty good sounding board in that regard. A lot of respective opinions in our change room as well,” he added.
